Many of our treasured readers and commentators will have attended, contributed and assisted with the fundraising efforts of our Senior hurlers with three successful events since Christmas which contribute to the players' fund. This fund has been in operation over the past few years and enables the players to get a supply of gear, additional training amenities and team building events.
On Saturday February 16th 2019 the Adare Senior hurlers held the Second of our three fundraisers – Adare Masters Hurlers v Adare Current Players which was played in front of a big audience in the Manor Fields.
The Adare Masters teams consisted of members of the 1993/1996/2001/2002 county final panels and were managed by Vincent Foley and Shane Fitzgibbon. The Adare Current players managed by Ger Hickey, Eamon Fitzgerald and PJ Kinevane ran out eventual winners after penalties. The afters in Bill Chawkes bar also provided great fun with the match shown on TV and the presentation of the Man of the Match award to Timmy Houlihan, Moment of the Match to Plunkett O’Neill and the winning trophy to the current players management team. Many thanks to our Bord na nÓg players who played at the intervals of each third on the day. It was great to see the past, present and future stars of our club on the field.
Unfortunately there is 6 past players/mentors of those panels who are no longer with us – Donie McCarthy, Tony Houlihan, Pat McDonnell, Sean Heffernan, Billy Kennedy & Tom Dunne. It was great to be able to recognise their contribution to hurling in Adare with a small presentation to their families on the day. They all played a huge part in our clubs history and it was great to remember them on the day.
Many thanks to Eamon Doody for capturing the images of the day, to Patsy Hall for recording the game with Charlie McCarthy on commentary, the Adare Manor Fields for the use of the grounds, John Meighan for sponsoring the presentations to the families of the 6 deceased players/members, to the Mammies of our current players who provided sandwiches on the day, to Aunty Lenas for the much needed warm soup on such a cold day and finally to all those who supported the event and made very generous donations.
The DVD of the game is for sale for €10, if interested please contact John Fitzgibbon on 0872280363
